Colin Pouton is currently Professor of Pharmaceutical Biology, Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Pouton has had research interests in lipid-based drug delivery systems for over 30 years, since he commenced his PhD studies on self-emulsifying drug delivery systems at the University of London. He also has research interests in delivery of macromolecules for vaccination and gene delivery, and in the application of cell culture models for drug discovery, drug development and cell therapy. His current research on lipid-based delivery systems is focussed on developing in vitro models of the fate of various ‘Types’ of formulations in the gastrointestinal tract, with a view to establishing practical tools for formulators, and improving in vitro-in vivo correlation.
